In 2016, 1 in 50 new jobs in the U.S. were in solar. Recent data from The Solar Foundation shows us just how much the solar industry is booming across the country.
According to their data from National Solar Jobs Census 2016, the U.S. has reached over 260,000 solar jobs since 2016, adding almost 60,000 since 2015.
Not surprisingly, about 70% of the top 10 cities for solar jobs are in California and other West Coast states. However, many other states have increased solar employment over the last year. Metropolitan areas on the East Coast, for example, have upped their solar game, and major cities such as Boston and New York made the top 10 list.
Here’s a breakdown of solar jobs by state in 2016:
- Detroit, Michigan’s metropolitan area increased its solar jobs by 71%, and now has 2,037 solar workers.
- San Antonio, Texas increased its number of solar jobs by 146%, up to 1,767 solar workers.
- Cleveland, Ohio doubled its solar jobs, bringing the city to a total of 1,632 solar workers.
